Project narrative

In 2005, the Chinese government donated equipment and material to North Korea for the examination and prevention of bird flus. The equipment includes test kits. The project aims to prevent the spread of bird flu in the country, especially via its border and trading ports.

Staff comments

The transaction amount of the donation remains unclear. The donation was part of the response to the spread of influenza strain H5N1 globally. China has also provided technical, financial and material assistance for the prevention and control of bird flu in neighboring countries. China has trained some veterinary professional technicians for ASEAN countries, and provided technical, material and financial assistance to Vietnam, Thailand, North Korea, Mongolia, and Indonesia.
