Project narrative

From July 1st to 12th 2019, a Chinese medical expert group with 9 experts headed by Zhao Shaoqi, deputy director of Tianjin Medical University Eye Hospital, visited North Korea to carry out the "China-North Korea Cooperation Bright Project of Health Express" (Chinese: 健康快车中朝合作光明项目), which provided free diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases for North Korean people. Specifically, the Chinese medical convoy carried out rehabilitation surgery for more than 200 North Korean cataract patients, as well as diagnosis and treatment exchanges and demonstration teaching activities for various eye diseases. The project is the first joint implementation of the International Exchange and Cooperation Center of the National Health Commission of China and the North Korean Hospital Association this year. On July 5, Chinese Ambassador to the DPRK Li Jinjun led some diplomats of the Embassy and media reporters to visit the North Korean Red Cross Hospital to inspect the ongoing clinic project and visit the patients. Liu Wanxiong, vice president of the North Korean Hospital Association, and Shen Rizhe, dean of the Korean Red Cross Hospital, accompanied him. The Chinese medical convoy will carry out rehabilitation surgery for more than 200 North Korean cataract patients, and carry out diagnosis and treatment exchanges and demonstration teaching activities for various eye diseases.
