Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In October 2017, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) granted $5 million USD to UNDP for emergency relief to countries affected by Hurricanes Maria and Irma. The aid will be used to fund reconstruction efforts in countries such as the Dominican Republic, Dominica and Antigua and Barbuda. China has continued to fund a number of relief efforts through its South-South Cooperation initiative (SSC). Emergency support provided by Chinese and UNDP exports has been successful in helping the Caribbean rebuild. The project completed at the end of June, 2018. In Dominica, 488 buildings were restored including three schools, five health care centers and essential government buildings, the main hospital, and the state college. In Antigua and Barbuda, 302 homes and essential facilities were served with roofing materials.
