Description

On August 1st, 2017, a formal handover ceremony was held for the Zhuhai Municipal Government, which granted equipment to the Fisheries Equipment and Training Project (or Fisheries Support Project). Zhuhai City government is the project implementer, and the funds were handed over to the Cook Islands Ministry of Marine Resources. The total grant is worth NZ $114,000 (USD $82,000). The agreement was signed in September 2016, when a delegation from the Cook Islands visited Zhuhai in Guangzhou, China, to discuss cooperation on agriculture, fisheries, culture, tourism, and health. As part of this agreement, Zhuhai City pledged a donation of equipment worth $US82,000 to support marine surveillance in the Cook Islands. This part of the agreement was fulfilled in August 2017 when a delegation from Zhuhai City presented the Cook Island’s government with equipment including 6 First Aid Kits, 9 Go Pro Hero4 Session Cameras, 2 2016 Nissan Navara Trucks, 2 2016 Honda Wave 110CC, 4 HP Elite Display Series E242 Monitors, 6 EPIRB/PLB units (Mapworld Ltd), 3 GPS Units (Mapworld Ltd), 6 ln Reach Devices (Mapworld Ltd), 1 DSLR Camera. These goods were locally sourced (not from China) to help the local economy. The agreement also includes training for the Ministry of Marine Resources and Ministry of Agriculture officials in China. The group will be trained in aquaculture, growing tropical fruits, and other tropical plantings. If successful, phase two of this project will involve experts from Zhuhai visiting the Cook Islands for more training. This project was initiated and completed in 2017. No training info has been found.
