Description
According to a ‘Summary of Planned Transmission Lines’ published by the Asian Development Bank in 2017, China Eximbank agreed at least in principle to issue a loan in 2013 for the 230kV Nam Ou (2), (5), (6)-Phongsaly-Pakmong Power Transmission Line Project in Laos. The purpose of this project is to construct a 151 km power transmission line that runs from the Nam Ou (2), (5), (6) hydropower plants to substations in Phongsaly and Pakmong. It is being designed and implemented on an independent power project (IPP) basis. The Asian Development Bank identifies the project as ‘under construction’ ('Lao PDR Accelerating Structural Transformation For Inclusive Growth' pdf p.182). However, AidData has not yet identified any other sources that corroborate the provision of a China Eximbank loan, so the project is status-coded as a pledge for the time being.
Additional details
CDB provided a $660 million buyer’s credit loan for the construction of the Nam Ou (2), (5), (6) hydropower plants (see Project ID#63762).
