Project narrative

In 2006, the Chinese Government provided a $1.3 million grant to the Government of Laos for the Vientiane Radio Station and Transmission Tower Construction Project. This project took place in the capital city of Vientiane and it involved the provision and installation of a 10Kw FM radio transmitter and a 5Kw FM radio transmitter. It also involved the provision and installation of a 128-meter self-supporting radio transmission tower, including civil engineering renovation, transmitter, antenna feeder, satellite receiving system, and installation and debugging of supporting program equipment. China Radio & TV Corporation for International Techno-Economic Cooperation (CRTV) was the contractor responsible for implementation. The project commenced on July 28, 2006 and it was completed on November 10, 2006. An inauguration ceremony was held on November 19, 2006. CRI subsequently began broadcasting on FM93 in Vientiane.
