Description

According to the Kiribati government, on September 26, 2019, the Chinese Government committed to support a solar lighting project in Kiribati. This support comes after Kiribati officially recognized the People's Republic of China. The project was previously started by the Taiwanese government, but after Kiribati switched allegiance to the People's Republic of China, the latter took charge of the project. According to an essay penned by Tang Songgen, Chinese ambassador to Kiribati, the solar lights are currently in use in Tabuaeran, Kiribati. The share in terms of solar lights from China donations should be equal to the number of households, according to the Minister of Line and Phoenix Island Development.
