Full Description

Project narrative

On December 28th, 2009, a signing ceremony was held for the 14th Chinese Medical Technology Cooperation Project (or 援瓦桑托第十四期医疗技术合作项目), including a medical team, on Santo Island. The ceremony was attended by the Chinese Ambassador, Cheng Shuping, as well as the Vanuatu Minister of Health and the Foreign Trade Minister. Ambassador Cheng pointed out in his speech that the Chinese and Vanuatu governments have carried out medical technology cooperation for more than 20 years, and the cooperation between the two sides has been good and the results have been remarkable. The Chinese government has been sending medical teams to the Santo Northern Hospital since 1985 and the Port Vila Central Hospital since 1993. Medical teams normally consist of 7-9 members and serve for two years.
