Description

In August 2010, China’s Vice Foreign Minister "confirmed China's willingness to provide additional assistance" to upgrade upgrading the country's sports facilities in preparation for the 8th Micronesian Games in 2014. China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) subsequently provided a grant to the Government of the Federated States of Micronesia to renovate the FSM-China Friendship Sports Center on the Pohnpei campus of the College of Micronesia (COM) in advance of the 8th Micronesian Games. The renovation involved the refurbishing of a court and the installation of a new electronic scoreboard, lights, sound system, and NBA-style backboards and shot clocks. The renovated Sports Center was officially re-opened on February 24, 2017.
