On October 25, 2018, as part of the "Bright Journey" campaign in Yangon, Myanmar, a medical team from Kunming Medical University began providing free cataract surgeries for patients. The medical team was to perform 200 cataract removal operations. The event was implemented by Kunming Medical University and sponsored by Yunnan Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Myanmar’s Visakha Foundation, and the Sitagu Shwe Pyi Hein Eye Hospital. On the same day, Yunnan Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries donated medical equipment worth MMK 45 million (roughly USD 29,000) and cash assistance worth MMK 8 million (over USD 5,000) to Sitagu Shwe Pyi Hein Hospital. The equipment donation is captured in Record ID #68432 and the cash assistance donation is captured in Record ID #86574. Furthermore, approximately one month prior on September 20, as part of a two-day program for the same Bright Journey campaign, the medical team from Kunnan Medical University, along with a local medical team at Sitagu Pyi Hein Eye Hospital, provided free cataract surgeries to over 120 Burmese patients. 1. Yunnan Provincial People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries is the Yunnan branch of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC). Although CPAFFC’s charter identifies it as an NGO, the provincial branches of the organization are set within the provincial governments. As such, Aiddata classifies funding provided by provincial branches of CPAFFC as official funding.
