Project narrative

In 2014, the Chinese Embassy committed to assisting the Office of Timor-Leste First Lady, Madam Kirsty Sword Gusmao, with the Baby Account Program (“婴儿账户”慈善项目). The program supports families with $30/month; $15 is saved for "entry into school life from the age of 6," and $15 for food and hygiene. The first batch of project was launched on June 1, 2014. NGO's funded the second batch, and in 2015, China renewed their commitment and funded the third batch of the program, launched on August 25, 2015. The Chinese funding was delivered on November 20, 2015. As of November 17, 2015, 61 families were involved in the program; the first batch was launched in the 31 sucos of the Municipality of Dili, the second, NGO-funded, batch was launched on September 17, 2014, in the 23 sucos of the Municipality of Liquiçá, and the third batch was in the 31 sucos of the Municipality of Aileu.
