Project narrative

On December 24, 2019, the Chinese Government and Thailand Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for poverty alleviation and forest preservation in Northeast Thailand. This project will be financed by a loan of 2,430,000 RMB from the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund and implemented by the Royal Forest Department (see Umbrella Record ID#49339). The borrowing terms are unknown. According to a report from the Chinese Embassy in Thailand, by March 2021, the forest poverty reduction demonstration zone project was launched in 8 communities in the Buengkan Province. Since the project's launch, 20,000 tree seedlings have been planted to develop Thailand's eco-tourism and forest economy.
