Project narrative

In 2017, the Chinese Government issued a grant for the construction of the Lao National Water Information Center (or 老挝国家水资源信息数据中心). On November 14, 2017, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the project was signed in Beijing. The funding comes from Chinese government. On Feb 2, 2018, the launch ceremony of the center was held in Vientiane. The project was implemented by the Yangtze River Water Resources Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources. On the same day (Feb 2, 2018), the letter of intent for the cooperation of the second phase of the project was signed. According to "长江水利委员会水文局老挝国家水资源信息数据中心(二期)建设项目成交结果公告", Yangtze River Water Resources Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources is responsible for the second phase and the total bidding price is 4438980 RMB. The center will help improve Laos’ hydrology The ability and level of water resources monitoring, forecasting and early warning provide decision support and technical support for the flood prevention, drought relief and disaster reduction of Laos and comprehensive utilization of water resources. Financial details regarding the cost of the first phase of the project are unclear.
