Description

On Mar 31, 2014, the cooperation agreement for the Sustainable Forest Management Demonstration Project was signed. The project is implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Laos and organized by the Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation. The total cost of the project is about 3.6 million US dollars, of which the Chinese government provided a grant of 3 million US dollars and the Lao side provided 600,000 US dollars. The first meeting of committee of the project was held on Nov 14, 2014. The project is planned to complete in July 2019. A Completion report was released by Laos in 2017, but the concrete date is unclear. The project mainly conducts a demonstration of restoration of degraded forests, exploration of sustainable management models of community forests, joint forest law enforcement, and the construction of cross-border biodiversity protection mechanisms in the southern provinces of North Laos, Nantam, Utmuse, and Pocho, and Yunnan Xishuangbanna Nature Reserve. Information sharing of best practices in forest restoration and management. The project will help strengthen forestry exchanges and cooperation between the two countries and promote the common development of forestry between the two countries ("中老双方签署合作协议加强林业合作").
