Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On September 10, 2015, the Chinese Government exchanged letters with Fiji about the aid of police equipment in 2015. According to the agreement, the Chinese government will provide a grant of RMB 2 million to the Fiji Police Force. The agreement was reached between Acting Minister for Immigration, National Security, and Defence Jioji Konrote and China’s Vice-Minister for Public Security Deng Weipeng. The grant would include motorcycles and a digital monitoring system to assist in police operations and investigations. On December 9, 2015, a handover ceremony was held for the China Ministry of Public Security donation of police equipment to Fiji's Police Force. The donation included 10 motorbikes and a digital monitoring system. The bikes are worth RMB 2 million (FJD 666,000). 2 of the motorbikes went to the Western Division, five to Suva, Nausori, and Sigatoka patrols, and 3 will be used for VIPs and other 'special assignments.' This donation is part of the bilateral assistance agreed to under the 2011 Memorandum of Understanding on police cooperation signed between China's Ministry of Public Security and Fiji's Ministry of Defense, National Security, and Policing (see Record ID#64694).
