Project narrative

In 2017, the Chinese Government agreed to donate a total of 5,504 tons of rice to Syria. The estimated monetary value of the donation is $2,196,481.28. The rice was to be delivered in batches of 1,000 to 1,200 tons. The first batch of 1,000 tons of rice was delivered to the city of Latakia on November 20, 2017. The last batch of rice was delivered on February 27, 2018. The food came as a form of aid in response to poor conditions in the country due to the ongoing war.

Staff comments

1. To estimate the monetary value of the rice donation ($2,196,481.28), AidData takes the international price of a ton of rice in 2017 ($399.07) and multiplies it by 5,504 tons. 2. The Arabic project title is 5504 أطنان من مادة الأرز.
