Description
On June 20, 2012, the Chinese Government donated two mobile container inspection units, worth RMB 40 million (or CFA 2.7 billion francs), to the Government of Togo. The donated equipment had high penetration, good mobility and reliability, and were easy to operate; the donation was intended to improve the efficiency, speed, and effectiveness of the detection capabilities of Togolese customs and security authorities, allowing them to detect more contraband items. The donation was expected to deter racketeering and corruption and help fight against smuggling and the drug and arms trades. Nuctech Company Limited manufactured the two scanners. The Chinese Ambassador to Togo, Wang Zuofeng, and Togo's Minister of Security and Citizen Protection, Colonel Rata Dokissim Nama, attended the June 20th handover ceremony. An on-site test of the two truck-mounted container scanners took place at the ceremony.
