Project narrative

In August of 2004, the Chinese government granted Nauru $1 million after an agreement was reached during the Apia Forum (August 5th-7th). According to "Votes and Proceedings of the Fifteenth Parliament, No. 50", the grant is equal to 1.3 million AUD, with approximately AUD300,000 allocated to purchasing fuel on September 1st, 2004. In addition to the fuel shipment, an unspecified amount of the grant was "to assist to the extent possible our overseas students’ critical accounts to settle their unpaid accounts and get on environment at least until the end of the school year," and AUD72,000 was put towards redundancy packages for staff working in Melbourne, AUS (page 11).
