Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On January 17, 2011, the Chinese Government inaugurated an Eye (Ophthalmology) Center at the Republican Hospital (هيئة المستشفى الجمهوري التعليمي في صنعاء) in the capital city of Sana'a. The center performs free cataract surgeries for Yemenis and hosts Chinese ophthalmologists. The Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Ministry of Health Zhang Mao and Yemeni Vice President Abla Hadi attended the inauguration ceremony. At the ceremony, the Chinese government donated more than 2.8 million RMB worth of ophthalmic medical equipment including phacoemulsifiers and surgical microscopes to the Sana’a Republic Hospital, and will further cooperate with Yemen in personnel training and technical exchanges. Previously, on January 15, 2011, 22 Yemeni patients with cataract were treated by the Chinese Ophthalmology Expert Team. The team for this free consultation was organized by the Health Department of Liaoning Province, China, and mainly came from the Jinzhou Yadong Eye Hospital (in Chinese: 辽宁省锦州亚东眼病医院) in Liaoning Province. The Chinese side provided the center with advanced ophthalmic medical equipment and organized local doctors to go to China for training. In 2013, there were already 5 Yemeni doctors who studied in China working in the Eye Center, and they carried out free consultations with Chinese experts.
