In 2015, Chinese government donated X-ray machine to Tonga, worth TOP 3 million. Official sources state that this machine was donated as a customs container scanning machine.

Staff comments

The Lowy Institute database states that this machine was donated as medical equipment, citing shortages of this equipment in Tonga. While it does appear that Tonga was experiencing medical equipment shortages, the official 2015 Tongan budget report states that this machine was granted for container inspection purposes.
