On July 12, 2017, in a letter to President of Iraq Fuad Masum, Chinese President Xi Jinping announced that that the Chinese Government would provide RMB 80 million ($11.8 million USD) in material aid to Iraq for post-war reconstruction activities. The details of this transaction are unknown; however, the media outlet CGTN states that the Chinese Government offered to sign an agreement on reconstruction with Baghdad.
