Project narrative
On August 31, 2007, the Chinese Government and the Government of Gabon signed an exchange of letters related to a Primary School Construction Project. The monetary value of the grant commitment from China’s Ministry of Commerce for this project is unknown. The project involved the construction of two primary schools: one in the capital city of Libreville and the other in Bongoville. Bongoville is a town in southeastern Gabon, east of Franceville. It was known as Lewai until it was renamed for President Omar Bongo, who was born in what was then a village but was greatly enlarged under his presidency. China Geo-engineering Corporation was the contractor responsible for implementation. Construction began on December 26, 2008 and ended ahead of schedule on on June 26, 2009. The project was officially completed and handed over to the local authorities on July 3, 2009.

The Chinese project title is 援加蓬利伯维尔农村小学项目 or 加蓬利伯维尔农村小学项目 or 司承建的加蓬邦戈维尔中加友谊小学项目 or 加蓬邦戈维尔小学. The French project title is École Primaire Publique De L'amitié Sino-Gabonaise or Ecole primaire Bongoville au Gabon. It appears that Huashan International Engineering Co., Ltd was originally selected as the contractor responsible for implementation, but later replaced by China Geo-engineering Corporation.
