Description

On December 12, 2014, Chinese Ambassador to Tonga Mr. Huang Huaguang handed over a package of aid supplies worth US$744,000 to Tonga's Ministry of Education and Training. The aid package came following a visit of Mr. Wang Jiarui, Vice President of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Minister of International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CCCPC) to Tonga in March 2014. After learning of the devastation caused by Cyclone Ian, he decided to provide this aid package to help revitalize the education and agriculture of the hard-hit Ha'apai islands. The package contained: 15 water tanks for primary schools, fence construction for GPS Nomuka, GPS Lotofoa and GPS Fakakani and two tractors for local communities in Ha'apai. This project is linked to #37759, which records food aid from China, #39198, which records an additional cash and relief supplies grant, and #73440, which records construction aid materials from the Yanjian Group, all for relief and reconstruction following Cyclone Ian.
