Description
On August 9, 2018, China donated container scanning equipment to the Government of Cote d'Ivoire for use in Ouangolodougou, a border town next to Burkina Faso. The Chinese Government granted an unknown amount of funds to hire Tongfang Weishi Technology Co. (NUCTECH) to manufacture this technology, including a mobile X-ray inspection system and a vehicle-mounted scanner. The purpose of this donation is to assist Ivorian law enforcement and inspect cargo crossing the border from Burkina Faso. According to the Secretary of State in charge of the Budget and the State Portfolio of Cote d'Ivoire, the new scanner will make it possible to meet certain challenges specific to this area of intervention. In particular, transit fraud, fraudulent export of agricultural products and arms trafficking linked to terrorist activities. On March 24, 2018, a batch of the same equipment was donated to Noe, a border town next to Ghana (Project ID#66001).
