Project narrative

On January 16, 2019, Ukrainian Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine Stepan Kubiv signed an agreement with the Chinese government, under which China will grant Ukraine USD 137 million in technical assistance for the provision of modern medical equipment. Specifically, this grant will be used to purchase 230 units of medical equipment that will be used at hospitals in the Kherson, Ivano-Frankivsk, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhia and Dnipropetrovsk regions of Ukraine. The equipment includes tomographs, linear accelerators, multifunction monitors, X-ray equipment, cardiac/interventional angiography systems, and microscopes. Discussions of the donation began in May 2016 when the Ukrainian Ministry of Economic Development and Trade requested medical equipment on behalf of the Ukrainian Ministry of Health in the form of free assistance from the Government of China. In May 2019, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Stepan Kubiv announced that Ukraine had received the USD 137 million in technical assistance at a government meeting.
