Project narrative

In 2007, the Chinese Government and the Government of Cote d'Ivoire signed a CFA 600 million grant agreement for the Toupah and Anyama School Construction Project (两所农村中学交在地图巴和安尼亚玛). China’s Ministry of Commerce was the source of funding. This project involved the construction of a school in the commune of Toupah and the sub-prefecture of Dabou and another school in the sub-prefecture of Anyama. Each school was built on an area of 1100 m2, with 4 buildings as well as a modern basketball court, toilets for students and teachers, 3 laboratories and 8 ventilated classrooms. Jiangsu Provincial Construction Group was the contractor responsible for implementation. A foundation laying ceremony was held on May 28, 2008 and construction lasted less than 8 months. Both schools were officially inaugurated and handed over to the Ivorian authorities on January 23, 2009. Upon completion, the school in Anyama had the capacity to accommodate 650 students. The school in Anyama was later rehabilitated with financial support from the Chinese Government in 2012 (see Record ID#66064).
