Project narrative

On March 2, 2018 the Chinese government formally handed over emergency food aid worth 15 million Yuan to the Lebanese Ministry of Social Affairs to support Syrian refugees. The project handover certificate was signed between Lebanese Social Affairs Minister Pierre Bou Assi and Chinese Ambassador to Lebanon Wang Kejian in Beirut on behalf of their respective governments. The purpose of the aid was to assist Syrian refugees living in Lebanon and improve their living standards and nutrition. The food aid that was provided was originally agreed upon at the “Belt and Road” International Cooperation Summit Forum held in May 2017. On May 13, 2017, Chinese Ambassador to Lebanon Wang Kejian and Lebanese Reconstruction Committee Chairman Nabil Jisr exchanged letters of confirmation on emergency food assistance worth 15 million Yuan on behalf of their respective governments.

Staff comments

The emergency food aid captured in Record ID#65741 is likely part of the aid captured in Record ID#66202, since that the similar parties involved (Pierre Bou Assi) and the exchange of letters on May 13, 2017 describing emergency food assistance.
