Description
On June 1, 2010, the Chinese Government and the Government of Mongolia signed an exchange of letters, which committed RMB 60 million of grant funding for the Beijing Street Rehabilitation Project. The grant proceeds were drawn from an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA) that the two governments signed on April 11, 2008. The purpose of the project was to rehabilitate an 897 meter street (‘Beijing Street’) — located in front of the Chinese Embassy — in the city of Ulaanbaatar’s Bayanzurkh district. The project also involved the installation of lighting, traffic safety infrastructure, and ‘greening facilities.’ Beijing Construction Engineering Group (BCEG) was the contractor responsible for implementation. On September 10, 2013. It signed a project implementation agreement (MOU) with the municipality of Ulaanbaatar. Construction began on May 22, 2014 and the road was opened to traffic on October 27, 2014. The project was officially completed on December 6, 2014. The originally anticipated project completion date was November 31, 2014. The project was eventually awarded the "Special Prize for Capital Engineering Construction" by the Mongolian Government.
