Project narrative

In June 2019, the Chinese Government and the Government of Mongolia signed an exchange of letters regarding the Green Lake 1008 Housing Project. The Chinese Government provided an RMB 328,706,208 grant to the Government of Mongolia to support the implementation of the project. The purpose of the project is to construct a 21-story, 8-block housing development near Green Lake within Ulaanbaatar city, Sukhbaatar district, 9th district, and VII district. The project implementation unit took control of the 4.2 hectare project site in April 2020. 13 Chinese engineering and technical employees arrived in Mongolia between March 18, 2022 and July 14, 2022. Construction began on June 15, 2022. The project was originally expected to reach completion on October 25, 2023. As of January 2025 the project is 80% complete and expected to be finished in July 2025.

1. This project is also known as Green Lake 1008 Project. The Mongolian project title is Ногоон нуур 1008 айлын орон сууц төсө or 1008 айлын түр суурьшуулах орон сууц. 2. This project may be part of a RMB 2 billion Chinese Government grant for the Government Mongolia from 2017 when the Prime Minister of Mongolia paid an official visit to China (source: Улаанбаатарын гэр хороололд “Хятад хороолол” сүндэрлэнэ). This issue warrants further investigation.
