Project narrative

On August 17, 2013, a team of 6 experts led by Professor Zhang Jinsong, a well-known ophthalmologist from Chinese Medical University in Liaoning, conducted a week-long free clinic at the Eye (Ophthalmology) Center at the Republic Hospital (هيئة المستشفى الجمهوري التعليمي في صنعاء) in the capital city of Sana’a. They successfully performed an intraocular lens implantation operations for 20 Yemen cataract patients. This clinic sought to provide free surgery for 80 cataract patients. The crystals, instruments, consumables and other items used in the free clinic are all donated free of charge by China Medical University. The Eye (Ophthalmology) Center at the Republic Hospital (هيئة المستشفى الجمهوري التعليمي في صنعاء) in the capital city of Sana’a, aided by the Chinese government, was established on January 17, 2011 (captured in Record ID#65254). The Chinese side provided the center with advanced ophthalmic medical equipment and organized local doctors to go to China for training.
