On April 25, 2002, the Chinese Government and the Government of Macedonia signed an agreement on the ‘consolidation and promotion of friendly relations (in Chinese:《中华人民共和国和马其顿共和国关于巩固和促进友好合作关系的联合声明》). As part of this agreement, the Chinese Government donated two batches of computers to the Government of Macedonia. The first batch of 2000 computers arrived in July 2003 and the second batch of 3,300 computers was handed over to the Macedonian authorities on March 5, 2005. The monetary value of these 53000 computers was RMB 50 million. The contractors responsible for the acquisition and delivery of the computers were China National Complete Plant Import & Export Corp., Ltd. (COMPLANT) and China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation (CMC). COMPLANT was responsible for the first batch and CMC was responsible for the second batch. The computers were earmarked for use by primary and secondary schools in Macedonia and meant to improve local educational conditions.
