Description

On January 9, 2002, the Chinese Government and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) signed an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA), which committed RMB 30 million of grant funding for the acquisition of medical equipment and pharmaceutical materials from China. According to China’s Ministry of Commerce, this project was successfully completed in 2004.

Additional details

The Chinese project title is 提供一批医疗设备. After Yugoslavia was bombed by NATO, the Chinese Government provided an RMB 80 million grant — through an ETCA — to the FRY on December 3, 1999. Then, in April 2001 and January 2002, the Chinese Government donated RMB 20 million (captured in Project ID#66927) and an RMB 30 million (captured by Project ID#66926). The proceeds from these three grant commitments, which total to RMB 130 million, were reportedly used for the acquisition of medical equipment (including ultrasound machines and CT scanners), medicines, dressings, ‘consumer goods’, and other materials.
