Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

On December 20, 2011, the Chinese Government and the Government of Georgia signed an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA), in which the Chinese Government committed RMB 60 million ($9,468,000 USD) of grant funding for a Greenhouse Complex Construction Project. The proceeds from this grant were used to purchase agricultural machinery/equipment for vegetable cultivation in greenhouses and improve the delivery of land melioration services. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce provided the grant. The project took place on a 5 hectare plot of land at the LEPL Scientific-Research Center of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia in Marneuli district (municipality) within Kvemo Kartli region. It involved the construction of 6 large, solar and 27 small, simpler greenhouses, micro irrigation facilities, and other associated infrastructure. The ultimate goal of the project was to increase vegetable production in Georgia. Hunan Agriculture Group Co., Ltd. was the contractor responsible for project implementation. The project commenced in April 2015 and was it was originally expected to reach completion in October 2017. However, it ultimately reached completion on December 31, 2017. The Chinese Government later provided a RMB 20 million grant in 2014 to train Georgian farmers at the greenhouses financed by this project. For this related project, see linked Record ID#67762.
