Description
On July 10, 2012, the Chinese Government and the Government of Georgia signed an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA), in which the Chinese Government committed RMB 60 million ($9,420,000 USD) in grant funding for an Agricultural Equipment Acquisition Project. The proceeds from this grant were used to purchase of agricultural machinery and equipment to improve the delivery of irrigation services of the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia. On May 12, 2015, the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili and Chinese Ambassador to Georgia Yue Bin conducted an on-site inspection of the equipment and machinery. On November 6. 2015, another on-site equipment inspection took place. However, according to the Government of Georgia’s External Assistance Management Information System (EAMIS), this project reached completion status on September 1, 2016. This event is also considered teh handover ceremony of the project (Ambassador to Georgia Yue Bin Attended the Equipment Handover Ceremony of China-Georgia Economic and Technological Cooperation Project).

The Georgian project title is საქართველოს სოფლის მეურნეობის სამინისტროსთვის შესაბამისი ტექნიკისა და აღჭურვილობის შეძენა(საქართველოში ირიგაციის მომსახურების მიწოდების გასაუმჯობესებლად). AidData has assumed, in the absence of any specific information, that the Chinese Ministry of Commerce was the source of funding for this project, as the majority of grants and interest-free loans provided by the Chinese government come from MOFCOM.
