Project narrative

On February 12, 2015, a Chinese Language and Sinology Center at the Moscow State Pedagogical University was officially established. The center is in cooperation with the Jiangsu Second Pedagogical Institute. The center is focused on teaching the Chinese language to both university students and schoolchildren. It also conducts the HSK Exam and holds cultural events similar to that of a Confucius Institute.. According to the center’s founding agreement, the partner institutions will engage in joint-research and the exchange of scientific research. The agreement is for five years and can be renewed for another five years. A Chinese Embassy source states that that the creation of center was directed by the Chinese Embassy in Russia.

Staff comments

The February 12, 2015 agreement (see ‘Договор о сотрудничестве между МГОУ и ЦВПИ’) that established the center explicitly states that all details on how the center will be funded will be addressed in additional agreements. This issue merits further investigation.
