Project narrative

On May 26, 2018, the 17th batch of China's peacekeeping forces as part of the UN Interim Forces In Lebanon (UNIFIL) was sent to Lebanon. It consisted of 410 Chinese troops. They completed a handover ceremony with the 16th batch on May 18th, 2018, and served through May 27, 2019. They assisted with engineering and construction, medical treatment, consulting and advice, and more. They work primarily in southern Lebanon. China has sent UNFIL peacekeeping forces to Lebanon every year from 2006 to 2020. The program was temporarily suspended due to COVID-19 on June 30, 2020, but reinstated in August 2020 to respond to the Beirut explosion. See Record ID#41114 for the full project.
