Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In 2014, the Chinese Government provided a grant for the establishment of the Chinese Language and Culture Center of Tbilisi State University. The center was hoped to improve Chinese language, history, and culture studies at Tbilisi State University. The formal opening ceremony of the center was held on February 25, 2015. The Chinese Embassy in Georgia and the Georgian branch of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd provided computers, desks and chairs and other teaching equipment, as well as a large number of books on China, to the center on the same day. For Huawei's donation, see linked Record ID#85251 and for the Chinese Embassy's donation see linked Record ID#85252.

Staff comments

No source explicitly says the grant was agreed in 2014, but "Chinese Language and Culture Center Opened at TSU" mentions that the Chinese Ambassador promised to help the project "several months ago," meaning that aid must have been agreed to prior to 2015. Based on this information, 2014 was code as the commitment year, and "Year uncertain" box has been checked for the ambiguity.
