China-Gambia Agriculture Project holds technical training for Agricultural Science Teacher Association of Gambia (ASTAGAM) in February 2020 (Linked to Record ID#57048)

From February 24-28, 2020, the Agricultural Science Teacher Association of Gambia (ASTAGAM) received technical training at the Department of Agriculture in Sapu, Gambia. This technical training was sponsored by the China Aided Agriculture Technical Assistance to The Gambia Project (中国援冈比亚农业技术合作项目). See Record ID#57048 for more information on this initiative. For this training, the Chinese technical assistance team taught different agricultural techniques to Gambian trainees over the course of five days. Skills that were taught included use of vegetable seeding technology, making and using compost fertilizer, farm and garden demarcation and layout, and modern agricultural production practices. The exact monetary value of this project is unclear. The opening ceremony of this training project was held on February 24, 2020. On February 24 and 25, Chinese horticulture expert Yang Jinping taught the vegetable seedling technique and organic fertilizer making and using. On February 26, Mr. Huang Zhi lectured on land planning, sustainable development, and land and sustainability evaluation. He also led the ASTAGAM trainees to visit the core demonstration area of the China-Gambia agriculture project. On February 27, Chinese rice expert Zhang Xiaohui discussed analysis of the development trends of modern agriculture. On February 28, the training’s closing ceremony was held. The China-Gambia agriculture project team, the trainees in ASTAGAM, and Gambian officials such as the Governor of CRR, Sherriff Abba Sanyang.
