Project narrative

On May 11, 2019, the Chinese Military Medical Expert Group held the opening ceremony of the CNMEG's Training Workshop on Infectious Disease Surveillance and Biosafety in Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF). This project entailed an infectious disease prevention and control technology training class for the Sierra Leone Armed Forces that was held at the Sierra Leone Joint Ministry of Health Tropical Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control Center. Nearly 40 medical workers from the Sierra Leonean Army's frontline health outposts and the Sierra Leonean Joint Ministry of Health participated in the training. Hu Zhangliang, Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Savali, Commander of the Sierra Leonean Joint Ministry of Health, and Xu Zhe, leader of the China Military Medical Experts' Group and director of the Tropical Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control Center, attended the opening ceremony. The duration of this training is unknown, but the project is believed to be completed. This project is linked to the December 2016 ETCA between Sierra Leone and China, through which the Chinese Government was to fund 300 million Yuan to build the West Africa Center for Tropical Infectious Disease Prevention and Control (recorded in the umbrella Record ID#62554).
