On May 12, 2020, the Chinese Embassy in Benin donated anti-epidemic supplies to Benin’s Independent Election Commission (CENA). The donated supplies included 80 hand-washing devices, 500 masks, and 200 packs of hand sanitizer. The purpose of this donation is to support Benin’s COVID-19 response efforts during the upcoming municipal elections to be held on May 17, 2020. The monetary value of this donation is unknown. A handover ceremony was held for this donation. Ambassador Peng Jingtao and Chairman of Benin's Independent Electoral Commission (CENA) jointly attended the ceremony. The Political Counselor of the Embassy, the CENA Vice Chairman, and representative also attended.
