Project narrative

On December 19, 2018, China’s Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) and the Government of Uruguay signed an exchange of letters on a Theater Equipment Acquisition Project. MOFCOM reportedly committed $3,171,000 of grant funding for the project. The grant proceeds were drawn — at least in part — from an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA) that the two governments signed on the same day. On November 7, 2019, the Chinese Government officially handed over 1,508 pieces of donated equipment for six theaters in Uruguay. The following venues will utilize this donation: the Solís and Espacio Lorca of Montevideo; the Florencio Sánchez in Paysandú; the Larrañaga in Salto; the Paz y Unión in San Carlos, and the Lavalleja in Minas. The equipment included audio and monitoring systems, lighting and sound consoles, speakers, powers, LED lights, and other items.
