In 2007, the China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) and the Government of Ethiopia signed a $56 million grant agreement for the 132 km Assela-Dodola-Goba Road Upgrading Project. The purpose of the project was to upgrade a 132 km road (known as 'AD116') that runs from Dodola to Goba in Bale Zone and thereby help local farmers get their agricultural products to market.
