Description
In 2009, the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo) signed a $555 million contract with Sinohydro Corporation for construction of Chemoga Yeda hydroelectric facility in northwestern Ethiopia. China Eximbank agreed, in principle, to finance the project. Details about the nature of this financing are unknown. This dam was going to be located in the Gojjam area of the Amhara Regional State ("see China banks to extend ±1 bil USD loans to Ethiopia: Aysha II wind power & aircraft purchases: Threat to Boeing’s future in Ethiopia?"). However, China Eximbank ultimately decided to delay the project due the concerns raised by downstream countries.
