On March 16, 2018, the Chinese Government and the Government of Cuba signed an agreement in which the Chinese Government committed to donating rice worth $7.7 million USD to serve as emergency food aid to Cuba. Further implementation details are unknown. This project was one of six Chinese-funded projects in Cuba, worth a combined total of $36 million USD, which were completed in 2018. The Chinese name for this project is 紧急大米援助.
