In 2007, China Eximbank‘s Jiangxi Provincial branch issued a loan to Zhongding International Engineering Co. Ltd for the Bengkulu Coal Mine Project. The face value and the borrowing terms of the loan are unknown. The purpose of the project was to develop an underground coal mine in Bengkulu Province on the island of Sumatra (朋古鲁煤矿). Construction of the first well began in October 2007. Construction of the second well began in May 2009. Upon completion, the mine was expected to produce 1.2 million tons of coal a year. On March 31, 2018, the project was officially completed and handed over to its local owner. China Eximbank conducted an on-site, post-loan project inspection on May 26, 2018.
