Description

On November 6, 2000, the Chinese government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Kenya, agreeing to donate 160,000 USD to implement a pilot solar energy program for Kenya to help solve power shortage in rural areas. Deng Nan, the visiting vice-minister of science and technology of China, and Kenya's Science and Technology Minister, Henry Kosgey, signed the MoU on the project. 80 Kenyan households are expected to benefit from the project. The solar program can power four lights for the villagers' evening life, and a television set for the education and entertainment of each household.
