Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

From September 10 to October 1, 2017, 19 Samoan chefs were in Shandong Province in China to attend the "Training Course for Culinary Skills for Samoa in 2017". The Chinese Ministry of Commerce sponsored this project and Shandong Foreign Trade Vocational College hosted the participants. It is unclear when the Chinese Ministry of Commerce committed to financing this training course. The group was mainly professional chefs, but also included a few boutique owners and a few home cooks. Participants learned about ingredients, varied cooking processes, and the presentation of the food for guests. They were also given lectures on Chinese history and culture, and the role that food plays in it. The chefs were also treated to tours throughout China. At the end of the training, the chefs graduated with degrees from the Shandong Foreign Trade Vocational College and from the Shandong Provincial Labor and Employment Training Center.
