Description

During the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Costa Rica President Luis Guillermo Solis on January 6th, 2015, China agreed to provide Costa Rica a grant through an economic and technical cooperation agreement. The grant will be for National Development Plan projects. On December 11, 2015, the Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement was signed between the People's Republic of China and the Government of Costa Rica to grant 150 million Chinese Yuan (RMB) to the Costa Rica for national development purposes. The ETCA specifically funds 4 different projects. Of these projects, one of them is the High Opportunity Schools Network (Red de colegios de alta oportunidad). The purpose of this project is to invest in educational buildings and technical colleges in different parts of the country. As of March 17, 2016, the program served 10,000 students in risky conditions. Part of the High Opportunity Schools Network project involves “Let's Talk in Mandarin” program which teaches Mandarin in 11 institutions, funded again by the ETCA. This initiative was brought about by the Chinese Embassy in Costa Rica and Costa Rica's Ministry of Public Education. This project is linked to Project ID #54673.
