Project narrative

On June 18, 2012, the tenth Chinese medical team arrived at the Cheddi Jagan Research Center in Guyana. This latest batch of medical assistance includes a plastic surgeon, gynaecologist, cardiologist, general surgeon and radiologist. At an opening ceremony, the Director of Medical and Professional Services, among others, welcomed the new team and led a farewell for the ninth team in Guyana, which consisted of 15 members who served at Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) and Linden Hospital Complex, Region Ten. The tenth batch will also likely serve at the GPHC and Linden Hospital Complex, among other areas. Comprised of 14 doctors, the tenth team conducted several medical outreaches assisting 27,000 patients, including 2,900 critically-ill patients and performing more than 5,100 operations. The eleventh batch of doctors to Guyana was sent in 2014 (see Record ID#71206), and the twelfth batch arrived in 2016 (Record ID#71207).
