Narrative

Full Description

Project narrative

In 2013, the Government of China donated mobile container scanner equipment worth $4.3 million USD to the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA). The purpose of the project was to provide the GRA with equipment to more efficiently scan cargo imports to Guyana and prevent drug smuggling at the wharves of Georgetown. The Guyana Government Information Agency also noted that the grant now allows Guyana to abide by international standards for universal scanning of incoming containers. The scanner used an electronic linear accelerator as its X-ray source. The equipment arrived in Guyana on November 20, 2013, and was used beginning January 6, 2014. Minister of Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh and Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, H.E Zhang Limin signed an agreement on December 6, 2013 to certify the acceptance of the equipment.
